Minutes of Meeting
June 8, 2022
The Larchmont Public Library Board of Trustees met on June 8, 2022, attended by Library Board Chair Lauren Gottfried (LG), Library Board Trustees Barbara Liptack (BL), John McGarr (JM), Celeste Sharpe (CS), Linnet Tse (LT), Village of Larchmont Liaison Dana Post (DP), Friends of the Library Liaison David Dick, Library Director Laura Eckley (LE), Head of Reference Liam Hegarty (LH), and Library Staff Assistant Janet Regan. Library Trustees Barbara Flickinger (BF) and Galit Lopatin Bordereau (GLB) and Town of Mamaroneck Liaison Sabrina Fiddelman were absent.
Board Chair Lauren Gottfried called the meeting to order at 6:45pm.
The Board unanimously approved the minutes for the 5/11/22 Library Board Meeting.
LG welcomed the new Friends of Library Liaison David Dick and extended her thanks to Jennifer Rabina for her excellent service as the FOL Liaison for the past two years. DD reported on the success of the FOL Cocktail Party and Open House for the restored Lower Level. DD further reported that the FOL had approved the following grants to the Library: $14k for programs and $5k for Wifi in FY22/23, $500 for a summer art program, $750 for landscaping. LG thanked the FOL for their generosity and efforts on the Library’s behalf.
Schedule of Bills and Performance Report: The Board unanimously approved the schedule of bills dated 5/31/22 and the schedule of bills and additional list of bills dated 6/8/22.
Following discussion LT made a motion, seconded by BL, to approve the following resolution, which the Board then passed unanimously:
Resolved, that the Board of Trustees (“the Board”) of the Larchmont Public Library (the “Library”) hereby directs Village of Larchmont Acting Treasurer Mary Lou McClure to fund the Library’s 2021 HVAC Project with $25,000 from the Library’s Capital Projects Fund, in order to pay invoices related to the HVAC Project.
The Board unanimously approved Board Chair LG to authorize bill payments for FY21/22 prior June 30, 2022.
Building and Grounds
LE reported that the Lower Level is now reopened and being used by the public. LE reported on the following maintenance issues; biannual preventative roof maintenance was completed, a small leak in the children’s room ceiling drain is scheduled for repair, minor electrical repairs were completed, a pump for the chiller needed to be rebuilt and has been reinstalled.
At the recommendation of LE the Board unanimously approved the hire of Vivian Conan as a part time Librarian at an hourly rate of $34 and Veronica Berger as Seasonal Help at an hourly rate of $32.48. LE reported on upcoming programs including 1) the return of the Library’s Museum Pass Program 2) a Juneteenth Celebration in coordination with One Mamaroneck in Constitution Park 3) a September program highlighting Banned Book Week. LE further reported on the work done by MHS Interns, a planning meeting with the Brown Family for Ryder’s Children’s Garden, and ongoing efforts to update all staff related policies and procedures.
Following discussion the Board voted unanimously to approve an amended Internet Use Policy.
