Twelve Tangents – CIV Series 404 & 505 by Ariadne Pilarinos

September 1st – September 29th

Closing Reception: Saturday, September 23rd from 2pm-4pm

I am a highly experienced and passionate fine artist, working since the early 70s specializing and fine-tuning my unique style in the discipline of original acrylic paintings on stretched canvas.

I studied under the tutelage of Arun Bose at Lehman College where I was awarded a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree. I developed my artistic abilities working with and curating fine art editions with master printers at a stone lithographic and a silkscreen atelier. I further broadened my artistic education with textile design at the Fashion Institute of Technology and went on to create custom carpet designs for bespoke clients at Patterson, Flynn and Martin.

I first start with a detailed sketch to visualize my final painting. With a grid I use a compass to draw out my motif on canvas. My motif is based on twelve tangents which I repeat throughout the grid revealing a geometric pattern of interlocking circles. I use the principals of the color wheel to reveal mesmerizing colors that are then applied and manipulated into a series of paintings. Through the mixing of acrylic paint with acrylic gel mediums, metallic paint, iridescent paint, glazing and varnishing techniques are what gives my finished paintings their distinct look.
