Minutes of Meeting
May 8, 2019
The Larchmont Public Library Board of Trustees met on May 8, 2019, attended by Library Board Trustees Jennifer Conley (JC), Barbara Flickinger (BF), Lauren Gottfried (LG), Barbara Liptack (BL), John McGarr (JM), and Linnet Tse (LT), Friends of the Library Liaison Sophia Bernstein (SB), Library Director Laura Eckley (LE), Reference Librarian Paul Doherty (PD) and Staff Assistant DJ Brucciani (DB). Board Chair Pamela Dubitsky, Village of Larchmont Liaison Sarah Bauer, and Town of Mamaroneck Liaison Jeffery King were absent.
Board Trustee Lauren Gottfried (LG) called the meeting to order at 6:45p.m.
Board Meeting Minutes
The Board reviewed and unanimously approved the Minutes of the Board Meeting of April 10, 2019.
Friends of the Larchmont Public Library Liaison Report
SB reported on the remaining programs and events the Friends will be hosting throughout the spring of 2019. SB further reported that the Friends Annual Meeting would be held on May 14, 2019 and that several new Directors would be joining the Board of the Friends.
Committee Reports
Schedule of Bills and Performance Report: The Board reviewed and unanimously approved the Schedule of Bills dated 5/3/19 & 5/8/19. The Board reviewed and accepted the Performance Report dated 5/3/19.
Building and Grounds
LE reported that a panel for the chiller which is located on the roof has malfunctioned and reviewed options proposed to the Library by HVAC service provider Atlantic Westchester. LE further reported that repairs were made to the Village Center men’s restroom, a window in the staff room and that garden hose wheels had been installed on the exterior of the building at each faucet.
Director’s Report
LE introduced Reference Librarian Paul Doherty (PD) who presented information regarding usage of the Library’s digital magazine service, RB Digital Magazines. PD reported that usage has increased 49% from last year. After discussion the Board approved renewal of the service for another year with the condition that additional publicity and programming for the service will be done with the goal of increasing users by 20% in the next fiscal year. PD will report back on these actions and present the Board with updated statistics in November 2019.
LE reported that a special concert will be held for the seasonal opening of The Ryder Brown Children’s Garden and that Everblocks, a large scale block building system, have been purchased to use in the garden over the summer. LE further reported that LMCTV had temporarily given the Library a digital display for public service notices and program advertisement. The Board discussed the signage and asked LE to further inquire about a small display.
Salary Increases for FY 2018 -2019
The Board voted unanimously to enter into Executive Session to discuss personnel issues at 8:05p.m. The Board voted unanimously to exit Executive Session at 8:35p.m.
The Board voted unanimously to approve management salaries for Fiscal Year 2018-19.
Board Trustee Lauren Gottfried adjourned the meeting at 8:37p.m. The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Board will be held on June 12, 2019.
