Minutes of Meeting

January 11, 2023

The Larchmont Public Library Board of Trustees met on January 11, 2023, attended by Library Board Chair Lauren Gottfried (LG), Jill Brennick (JB), Galit Lopatin Bordereau (GLB), Barbara Flickinger (BF), and Linnet Tse (LT), Village of Larchmont Liaison Dana Post (DP), Friends of Library Liaison David Dick (DD), Library Director Laura Eckley (LE) and Library Staff Assistant Janet Regan (JR). Library Board Trustees Barbara Liptack and Celeste Sharpe and Town of Mamaroneck Liaison Abby Katz were absent.

Board Chair Lauren Gottfried called the meeting to order at 6:45pm.

LG welcomed newly appointed Trustee Jill Brennick to the Library Board.

Minutes

The Board unanimously approved the minutes for the 11/11/22 Library Board Meeting and the 12/13/22 Special Meeting of the Library Board.

Friends

DD reported on upcoming FOL events and the success of their annual appeal. DD further reported that the FOL had approved a grant to the Library of $1,200 for a special series of programs on China which will be presented in the spring of 2023. LG thanked the FOL for the ongoing generosity and dedication to the Library.

Committee Reports

Schedule of Bills and Performance Report: The Board unanimously approved the schedule of bills dated 1/11/23 and the additional list of bills dated 1/11/23.

Building and Grounds

LE reported on building repairs and maintenance including; preventative roof and drain cleaning, annual fire extinguisher inspection, misc. wall, ceiling and door repairs and repainting, repairs to the fire alarm system, and the replacement of a toilet on the Main Level. LE further reported that the Library’s color copier will be replaced at no charge to the Library pending an insurance claim with the leasing company.

Director’s Report

On the recommendation of LE the Board voted unanimously to hire Ellen McTyre as a PT Librarian at a rate of $31 an hour effective 12/17/22 and Renee Rausch at a PT Librarian at a rate of $31 an hour effective 1/7/23. LE reported that the Library’s redesigned website has been live since late December and that the New York Times digital subscription link is now live on the website. LE further reported on 1) a new true crime book group hosted by Librarian Caroline Cunningham, 2) Librarian June Hesler’s successful application for a NYS Humanities Grant to support Ileen Gottesfeld’s spring book discussion series, 3) the recent donation from the Block Family of a Merlin Elite Pro HD/OCR Reader to assist patrons with vision impairments.

Additional Items

Following discussion the Board voted unanimously to approve a Library Trustee Education Policy. Following discussion the Library Board voted unanimously to approve revisions to the Library Volunteer Policy. The Library Board voted unanimously to approve a change of hours to extend the opening of the Children’s Room on Tuesday evenings from 5pm to 7pm.

The Board voted unanimously to enter into Executive Session to discuss a personnel matter at 7:45pm. The Board voted unanimously to exit Executive Session at 8:10pm.

Meeting adjourned at 8:10pm.

The next scheduled Board Meeting will be held on February 8, 2023 at 6:45pm.
