Jan. 10, 2024

The Larchmont Public Library Board of Trustees met on January 10, 2024, attended by Library Trustees, Barbara Flickinger (BF), Barbara Liptack (BL), Galit Lopatin Bordereau (GLB), and Linnet Tse (LT), Friends of Larchmont Library Liaison Ellie Berlin (EB), Library Director Laura Eckley (LE), and Library Staff Assistant Janet Regan (JR). Library Board Chair Lauren Gottfried, Library Trustees Jill Brennick and Celeste Sharpe (CS), and Village of Larchmont Liaison Dana Post were absent.

Library Trustee LT called the meeting to order at 6:41pm.

Minutes

The Board unanimously approved the minutes for the 11/08/23 Library Board Meeting and the minutes for the 12/7/23 Special Meeting of the Library Board.

Friends

EB reported on the FOL’s annual campaign, a grant from the FOL to the Library to pay for full online access to the NYT’s for Library cardholders and upcoming programs. LT thanked the FOL for their generosity and dedication to the Library.

Committee Reports

Finance

Schedule of Bills and Performance Report: The Board unanimously approved the schedule of bills and the additional lists of bills dated 1/10/24.

Facilities

Following discussion the Board unanimously approved a $6,204 proposal from Atlantic Westchester, the Library’s HVAC service provider, to repair the Library’s chiller.

Director’s Report

On the recommendation of LE the Board unanimously approved the hire of Susan Cooper as a part time Librarian effective 11/20/23 at an hourly rate of $32 and the permanent appointment of Janet Regan as Library Staff Assistant effective 12/4/23 at an annual rate of $70,215.

LE reported that December had the highest reported reference statistics of all time. LE further reported that publicity and programs were underway to promote the new enhanced access to the NYT online. LE updated the Board on staff training including CPR/AED training provided by the LFD and Safety Training provided by the LPD, as well as a WLS training attended by Children’s Librarian Veronica Berger on service and storytimes for special needs patrons. LE informed the Board that Librarian Paul Doherty has successfully applied for a grant from the NYS Humanities Council to support a spring 2024 series of book discussion programs.

Meeting adjourned at 7:37pm. The next scheduled Board Meeting will be held on 2/12/24 at 6:30pm.
