Minutes of Meeting
October 11, 2023
The Larchmont Public Library Board of Trustees met on October 11, 2023, attended by Library Board Chair Lauren Gottfried, Library Trustees Jill Brennick (JB), , Barbara Liptack (BL), Galit Lopatin Bordereau (GLB), Celeste Sharpe (CS), and Linnet Tse (LT), Town of Mamaroneck Liaison Abby Katz (AK), Friends of Larchmont Library Liaison Ellie Berlin (EB), Library Director Laura Eckley (LE), Head of Reference Liam Hegarty (LH) and Library Staff Assistant Janet Regan (JR). Library Trustee Barbara Flickinger (BF) and Village of Larchmont Liaison Dana Post (DP) were absent.
Library Board Chair LG called the meeting to order at 7:00pm.
Minutes
The Board unanimously approved the minutes for the 9/13/23 Library Board Meeting.
Friends
EB reported on the success of recent programs and fundraising. EB further reported that grants to the Library were approved at the FOL September meeting to fund the costs of a new self-check, new door openers, installation of a new Keurig for the public and two new museum passes. LG commended the FOL for their generosity.
Committee Reports
Finance
Schedule of Bills and Performance Report: The Board unanimously approved the schedule of bills and the additional lists of bills dated 10/11/23.
Facilities
LE reported on completed facilities issues including the annual fire inspection by LFD, check valve installation in the elevator pit pump system, an update to the fire alarm’s call system, annually waxing of the VC floors and misc. additional repairs.
LE further reported that PLDA and WLS had approved LPL’s grant application to the NYS Library Construction Grant Program for $82,500 for the retrofit of the main building elevator and forwarded the application to NYS for final approval.
Director’s Report
On the recommendation of LE the Board unanimously approved renewal of the Library’s digital subscription to the NYT’s with new features added for 2024.
LE reported on that the bi annual patron count, conducted in September, revealed a 20% increase in foot traffic over the prior year. LE further reported on the success of several Library card registration events in September, Library participation in a number of local events, Banned Book Week events, and upcoming programs on micro brewing, cat behavior and papercutting art.
Additional Items
The Board unanimously approved the 2023 Equipment Discard List.
LE reviewed progress and next steps for committee work on the Library’s Long Range Strategic Plan.
Meeting adjourned at 7:37pm. The next scheduled Board Meeting will be held on November 8, 2023 at 6:30pm.
