Minutes of Meeting
February 10, 2016
The Larchmont Public Library Board of Trustees met on February 10, 2016 at 6:45 p.m., attended by Board Chair Pamela Dubitsky (PD), Trustees Jennifer Conley (JC), Maureen LeBlanc (ML) and Barbara Liptack (BL), Town of Mamaroneck Liaison Abby Katz (AK), Friends of the Larchmont Public Library Liaison Sophia Bernstein (SB), Library Director Laura Eckley (LE) and Assistant Director June Hesler (JH). Trustees Lauren Gottfried, John McGarr and Iven Taub were excused and Village Liaison Marlene Kolbert was absent.
Board Chair PD called the meeting to order at 6:50 p.m.
The Board reviewed and unanimously approved the Minutes of the Board Meeting of January 13, 2016 and the Minutes of the Special Board Meeting of January 29, 2016.
PD noted that this was AK’s last meeting and Ernie Odierna would be the new Town of Mamaroneck Liaison beginning in March. PD thanked AK for her commitment and dedication to the library.
Friends of the Larchmont Public Library Liaison Report
SB reported the Watanabe concert was standing room only. LE mentioned the spelling bee committee are looking for teams and are hard at work compiling lists of words.
Committee Reports
Finance and Budget Committee
Schedule of Bills and Performance Report: The Board reviewed and unanimously approved the Schedule of Bills dated 2/2/16 and 2/10/16. The Board received the Performance Report dated 2/4/16.
PD reported that the Board and LE formally presented the library’s FY16/17 budget to the Town and Village Boards on February 1, 2016 and both Boards indicated they would vote to approve the budget as presented.
Building and Grounds
Transformation: LE reported that construction is going well and that the project is running on time. LE also reported that, due to necessary asbestos abatement, the library will be closed from February 11- 14. PD reported that furniture and shelving finishes are currently being finalized.
Windows: LE reported the Children’s Room will be closed February 8 – 10 to allow for the completion of window replacement.
Director’s Report
The Board approved the hire of Alexandra Gaete as a part time librarian as of February 9, 2016 at the rate of $28.00/hour. LE reported that June Hesler will be retiring as of April 1, 2016 but will return part-time to continue working on special adult programming and other projects. JH noted that she is preparing a grant to the New York Council for the Humanities for a program on collecting and recording family memories. LE reported Children’s Librarians Rebecca Teglas and Linnea Moosmann visited all the local elementary schools as part of their annual Winter Blues Tours. LE further reported that Teen Librarian Kim Larsen recently held a series of knitting classes funded by a WLS mini grant and that Librarian Liam Hegarty is coordinating with Kim Larsen to update the library’s teen web page.
Additional Items
The Board voted unanimously to close the library on the following days: March 27 (Easter), May 8 (Mother’s Day), and July 2 (July 4th weekend).
Board Chair Dubitsky adjourned the meeting at 8:10 p.m. The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Board will be held on March 9, 2016.
