Minutes of Meeting
April 11, 2018
The Larchmont Public Library Board of Trustees met on April 11, 2018 at 6:45 p.m., attended by Board Chair Pamela Dubitsky (PD), Board Trustees Lauren Gottfried (LG), Jennifer Conley (JC), Maureen LeBlanc (ML), Barbara Liptack (BL), John McGarr (JM) and Linnet Tse (LT), Village of Larchmont Liaison Sarah Bauer (SB), Town of Mamaroneck Liaison Jeffery King (JK) and Friends Liaison Sandy Bernstein (SB), Library Director Laura Eckley (LE), Library Head of Reference Liam Hegarty (LH) and Staff Assistant D.J. Brucciani (DB).
Board Chair Dubitsky called the meeting to order at 6:50 p.m.
PD welcomed Sarah Bauer, who was recently elected to the Village of Larchmont Board of Trustees, as the new VOL Library Liaison.
The Board reviewed and unanimously approved the Minutes of the Board Meeting of March 14, 2018.
Friends of the Larchmont Public Library Liaison Report
SB discussed the upcoming programs sponsored by the Friends, including a production of Hamlet, the annual Spelling Bee and a One Book One Community Program on Start Trek. PD thanked the Friends for their continued support of the Library.
Committee Reports
Schedule of Bills and Performance Report: The Board reviewed and unanimously approved the Schedule of Bills dated 4/6/18 and 4/13/18. The Board approved the Performance Report dated 4/10/18.
LE presented statistics related to the Library Museum Pass Program requested by the Board at the March Board Meeting and reviewed recent changes to the purchase of the American Museum of Natural History program.
Building and Grounds
LE reported on recent repairs and maintenance to the Library building, noting that 1) the Children’s Room lobbies have been re-painted, 2) the wifi upgrade (sponsored by The Friends) is scheduled for the end of April, and 3) the engineering firm of Werner Teitjen PE has completed a comprehensive survey of the Library’s equipment and will provide a report to the Board once the AC has successfully transitioned to the summer season.
LE reported that engineer Werner Teitjen recommended that the Library enter into an annual service contract for the HVAC system, that she obtained competitive bids from three HVAC companies, and that Werner Teitjen reviewed the bids and recommended that the Library enter into an annual HVAC service contract with the lowest bidder, Atlantic Westchester. Following discussion, the Board unanimously approved a one-year service contract with Atlantic Westchester, effective immediately.
Director’s Report
LE reported that 1) Staff Assistant DJ Brucciani oversaw the donation and installation of a new commercial Keurig by WB Mason, 2) Children’s Librarian Linnea Moosmann attended the annual PLA Conference and, based on a program she attended, is implementing librarian visits to the local recreation department day camps this summer and 3) Teen Librarian Kim Larsen has created a Library internship position for the MHS Senior Internship Program.
LE reported on the success of the Library’s third One Book One Community Program, sponsored with the Mamaroneck Public Library, with events taking place throughout April based on the book “1968” by Mark Kurlansky, and noted that over 120 people attended the 1968 community art exhibit on April 7th. LE reported that librarians are now holding exit surveys for programs to help determine how attendees are hearing about library programs and what types of programs they would like to attend in the future.
Board Chair Dubitsky adjourned the meeting at 7:50 p.m. The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Board will be held on May 9, 2018.
