Speaking of Art, Modern Art Camp continues Wednesday, July 20th at 2 pm

Wednesday’s, July 6th-Wednesday, August 10th at 2:00 pm. Join Joyce Raimondo, Education Coordinator, for an exploration of the expressive language of paint and the elements of art. Examples of Pollock and Krasner’s groundbreaking painting will be shown followed by hands-on workshops.  The library will not provide any supplies.  You only need to sign up once and you will get the Zoom link the evening before for each session.

Shape Up! (July 20th) – How can a circle, square or a triangle  convey an emotion?  Explore how simple shapes  communicate ideas and feelings in abstract art.  Following, create an abstract work using bold shapes. Have a surface for your picture, and assorted colored papers, scissors, glue and paint supplies on hand.

Feel It! Texture in Art (July 27th) – Rough, shiny, bumpy, smooth.  How did Pollock and Krasner use texture in their art? Explore the use of tactile and visual texture in this paint-collage workshop. Collect textured materials such as sand paper, corrugated paper, fabric, cotton balls etc. and a stiff board or paper, glue, and scissors.

Make your Mark (August 3rd) – Splash, pour, scrape, swoosh. How can you apply paint in experimental ways to create dynamic emotional effects?  Discover how modern artists make their marks with unconventional tools and followed by a painting project.  Bring paint supplies and  unusual painting tools such as sticks, forks, combs, rollers, sponges and anything else.

Composition Speaks (August 10th) – Composition is the arrangement of  the elements of art in a picture. Discover Pollock’s groundbreaking all over drip painting compositions and  creative ways other modern artists arrange the art elements in abstract painting. Joyce will then guide you through exercises to sharpen your understanding of composition.
