June 14, 2023

The Larchmont Public Library Board of Trustees met on June 14, 2023, attended by Library Board Chair Lauren Gottfried (LG), Library Trustees Jill Brennick (JB), Celeste Sharpe (CS), Barbara Flickinger (BF), Barbara Liptack (BL), Linnet Tse (LT), Village of Larchmont Liaison Dana Post (DP), Town of Mamaroneck Liaison Abby Katz, Friends of Library Liaison Elllie Berlin (EB), Library Director Laura Eckley (LE), Head of Reference Liam Hegarty (LH) and Library Staff Assistant Janet Regan (JR). Library Trustee Galit Lopatin Bordereau (GLB) was absent.

Board Chair Lauren Gottfried called the meeting to order at 6:47pm.

Minutes

The Board unanimously approved the minutes for the 5/10/23 Library Board Meeting.

Friends

LG welcomed new FOL Liaison Ellie Berlin. EB reported that the FOL’s annual fundraising drive for e-materials would take place over the summer.

Committee Reports

Schedule of Bills and Performance Report: The Board unanimously approved schedules of bills dated 5/31/23 and 6/14/23 and the additional list of bills dated 6/14/23.

Director’s Report

On the recommendation of LE the Board unanimously approved the hire of part time Library Clerk Sofia Rosenbaum effective 7/10/23 at an hourly rate of $15 and part time Librarian Kristi Farrell effective 7/21/23 at an hourly rate of $32.

LE reviewed museum pass statistics for the past year noting that the program remains extremely popular and that additional new passes may be added during the coming year. LE reported on the success of this year’s MHS intern program at the Library, the 49th Annual Senior Art Show, a Gambling Awareness program for parents presented by the Counseling Center, and a popular mini session of ukulele lessons. LE further reported on upcoming programs including potential collaboration with the LFD on community education programs, a number of Library card registration drives in the fall and a new Banned Book Book Group.

LE updated the Board on new sections of the Library’s website, two repairs to the Library’s HVAC system and an issue with the Library’s elevator pumps.

Additional Items

Following discussion the Board voted unanimously to approve amendments to the Library’s Sexual Harassment Policy, Anti-Harassment Policy and Photography, Audio or Filming Policy.

LE reviewed committees for the Library’s upcoming Long Range Strategic Plan.

LG reported on a Library Trustee Education webinar on Banned Books which she attended.

Meeting adjourned at 7:43pm. The next scheduled Board Meeting will be held on July 12, 2023 at 6:30pm.
