Minutes of Meeting

September 14, 2022

The Larchmont Public Library Board of Trustees met on September 14, 2022, attended by Library Board Chair Lauren Gottfried (LG), Library Board Trustees Barbara Flickinger (BF), Barbara Liptack (BL), Galit Lopatin Bordereau (GLB), and John McGarr (JM), Village of Larchmont Liaison Dana Post (DP), Town of Mamaroneck Liaison Sabrina Fiddelman, Friends of Library Liaison David Dick, Library Director Laura Eckley (LE) and Head of Reference Liam Hegarty (LH). Library Board Trustees Celeste Sharpe (CS) and Linnet Tse (LT) were absent.

Board Chair Lauren Gottfried called the meeting to order at 6:46pm

Minutes

The Board unanimously approved the minutes for the 7/20/22 Library Board Meeting.

Friends

DD reported on the success of the FOL’s emedia campaign over the summer with an increase in both donors and donations. DD further reported that the FOL had approved grants to the Library to cover the cost of soft seating in the Children’s Room, furniture for the Business Office and new shrubbery for the Library lawn. DD outlined upcoming FOL programs for fall 2022. LG thanked the FOL for their hard work, creative programs and all they do for the Library.

Committee Reports

Schedule of Bills and Performance Report: The Board unanimously approved the schedule of bills dated 9/14/22 and the additional list of bills dated 9/14/22.

Following discussion BF made a motion, seconded by JM, to approve the following resolution, which the Board then passed unanimously:

Resolved, that the Board of Trustees of the Larchmont Public Library hereby authorizes James Cazzorla, Treasurer of the Village of Larchmont, to transfer gifts and donations totaling $2,249.34, from the Library’s Ryder Brown Trust Fund to the Library Fund and reflect so in the “From Trust” Revenue Line of the Library’s FY22/23 Operating Budget.

At the request of LE the Board approved a proposal for $5,915.70 from Library Interiors for the purchase of furniture for the Business Office.

Building and Grounds

LE updated the Board on the status of the Library’s insurance claim for Ida and corresponding FEMA application. LE further reported on the following building repairs; the installation of new shrubbery on the Library lawn, the extension of the Library’s lawn sprinkler system to include driplines along the west side of the building, the reinstallation of the newly refurbished bird bath.

Director’s Report

On the recommendation of LE the Library Board unanimously approved the hire of Veronica Berger as a Librarian Trainee effective 8/1/22 with an annual salary of $59,114. The Board further approved a voluntary temporary reduction in hours and salary for Librarian Trainee Veronica Berger to a 4/5’s position effective 8/29/22 and not to extend past 12/31/22. LE reported on the success of the Library’s Summer Reading Game programs with participation reaching pre pandemic levels. LE further reported on the Library’s participation in upcoming VOL events including Larchmont Day, 1922 Day, the Art Festival and the Pollinator Festival. LE reported on the upcoming Banned Book Week Essay Contest with local authors as judges and October programs planned for children and teens.

Additional Items

Following discussion the Board voted unanimously to approve revisions to the Library’s Finance Manual, Gift Policy and Cash Control Policy and adopted a Credit Card Policy and Procurement Requirement Policy for the Library.
