“Community Garden” a fabric art piece will be displayed from December to the end of January in the children’s room.
Unveiled at the 2024 Larchmont Arts Festival, “The Community Garden” is a crowd-sourced display of crocheted flowers contributed by various residents in the area. The project is inspired by the global coral reef crochet project to raise awareness of coral bleaching. “The Community Garden” is hyper local (Larchmont/Mamaroneck), and the theme is simply of togetherness and community. The display upcycles materials that would otherwise be discarded. Flowers are made from scrap and donated yarn, arranged on burlap coffee sacks supported by leftover batting and framed by remnant plywood panels.
Contributors to The Community Garden include: Allison Schwartz Garces, Anna Macknica, Deirdre Winters, Donna Dickerson, Jennifer Shiels-Toland, Jill Patricot, Julie McNulty, Karen Hall, Liam Winters, Maura Kaschube, Michelle Schule, Stacey Gee Barbato, Steph Lala, Ute Londrigan, Valentina Soto. The project was co-organized by Larchmont residents Anne Cox, Cordelia Derhammer-Hill and Monica Winters.
