Feb. 12, 2024

The Larchmont Public Library Board of Trustees met on February 12, 2024, attended by Library Board Chair Lauren Gottfried (LG), Library Trustees Galit Lopatin Bordereau (GLB), Jill Brennick (JB), Barbara Flickinger (BF), Barbara Liptack (BL), Celeste Sharpe (CS) and Linnet Tse (LT), Friends of Larchmont Library Liaison Ellie Berlin (EB), Library Director Laura Eckley (LE), and Library Staff Assistant Janet Regan (JR). Town of Mamaroneck Liaison Sabrina Fiddelman and Village of Larchmont Liaison Dana Post were absent.

Library Board Chair LG called the meeting to order at 6:41pm.

Minutes

The Board unanimously approved the minutes for the 1/10/24 Library Board Meeting.

Friends

EB reported on the FOL’s upcoming programs. LE reported that a FAQ link regarding the FOL is now on the Library website. LT thanked the FOL for their generosity and dedication to the Library.

Committee Reports

Finance

Schedule of Bills and Performance Report: The Board unanimously approved the schedule of bills and the additional lists of bills dated 2/12/24.

LE reported that the VOL/TOM combined Budget Meeting to review the Library’s proposed budget for FY24/25 will be held on Monday 3/4/24 at 6pm in VOL VH.

Facilities

LE reported that Atlantic Westchester, the Library’s HVAC service provider, completed the repair the Library’s chiller approved at the January 2024 Board Meeting.

Director’s Report

LE reported on a number of recent incidents at the Library requiring coordination with the LPD. LE updated the Board on the success of recent programs including Yoga and Birding for Adults and the Children’s Librarians’ visits to the elementary schools for “Winter Blues Reading”. LE
reported on the excellent circulation statistics for Children’s books in French and Spanish. LE updated the Board on upcoming programs including a new Seed Library coordinated by Teen Librarian Kim Larsen and a teen volunteer, programs for all ages in honor of Earth Day, life sized Candyland for kids during February break, upcoming resume and essay programs for Teens and a WLS coordinated canned goods drive to benefit Feeding Westchester.

LE presented her semiannual update on annual goals. LG thanked LE for her hard work and  complimented her attention to detail.

Additional Items

Following discussion the Board voted unanimously to approve the Library’s 2024-2028 Long Range Strategic Plan. LG thanked the Board and staff for their time and effort working together on the plan.

LE reminded the Board to submit COI forms and proof of anti-harassment training for 2024 and that 2 hours of Trustee Training is required annually by NYS.

Meeting adjourned at 7:35pm. The next scheduled Board Meeting will be held on 3/13/24 at 6:30pm.
