Minutes of Meeting

November 14, 2018

The Larchmont Public Library Board of Trustees met on October 10, 2018, attended by Board Chair Pamela Dubitsky (PD), Board Trustees Jennifer Conley (JC), Barbara Flickinger (BF), Lauren Gottfried (LG), (BL), John McGarr (JM) and Linnet Tse (LT), Friends of the Library Liaison Sophia Bernstein (SB), Library Director Laura Eckley (LE), Library Head of Reference Liam Hegarty (LH), and Library Staff Assistant D.J. Brucciani (DB). Board Trustee Barbara Liptack, Village of Larchmont Liaison Sarah Bauer and Town of Mamaroneck Liaison Jeffery King were absent.
Board Chair Dubitsky called the meeting to order at 6:45 p.m.

Board Meeting Minutes

The Board reviewed and unanimously approved the Minutes of the Board Meeting of October 10, 2018.

Friends of the Larchmont Public Library Liaison Report

SB announced that the Friends annual appeal will be mailed out after Thanksgiving. SB reported that, at their November meeting, the Friends approved funding for the purchase of a number of  items for the Library, including a new gaming system and accessories for Teen programs. SB further reported that the Friends approved $12,000 for Library programs in the FY19/20 budget, an increase of $2,000 from last year.   The Board thanked the Friends for their ongoing generosity.

Committee Reports

Schedule of Bills and Performance Report: The Board reviewed and unanimously approved the Schedule of Bills dated 11/9/18 & 11/14/18. The Board reviewed and approved the Performance Report dated 11/9/18.
LE and the Finance Committee reported that they met with Town of Mamaroneck Supervisor Nancy Seligson and Town Administrator Steve Altieri to review a draft of the FY19/20 budget, and planned to meet soon with representatives from the Village of Larchmont to review the proposed budget.
LE reported that a bequest of $10,000 from the estate of former Larchmont resident Albert Ani, a longtime patron and supporter of the Library, had been received and deposited to the Board Unrestricted Trust. PD thanked the Ani family, noting that a bequest to the Library was a wonderful legacy for a lifelong patron to leave the community.

Building and Grounds

PD reported that the Facilities Committee had met again with TOM Liaison Jeffrey King and Mamaroneck resident Noel Judge to discuss improvements to the Library HVAC system recommended in the engineering survey commissioned earlier this year.
Upon the recommendation of LE, the Board approved an estimate from Atlantic Westchester of $3,800 for repairs to the HVAC system pipes located outside the Oresman Gallery on the lower level.
LE reported that a repair to the Children’s Room roof had been completed. She further reported that a piano (donated by a Larchmont resident) was delivered to the Village Center by Collins Brothers Moving, noting that Collins Brothers had donated their services for the move. PD thanked Collins Brothers Moving for their generous donation.

Director’s Report

LE reported on Library matters, noting that 1) the Library has recently activated Overdrive’s “pay per use” service, granting patrons access to a much wider collection of e-books and e-audio books,  2) the staff is continuing to clean out the building storage areas and 3) the staff has published its annual Holiday Gift Guides, which include staff book recommendations.

Other

PD announced that former Library Trustee Maureen Leblanc has been appointed to the Board of the Westchester Library System representing Larchmont, Mamaroneck and Scarsdale, and enthusiastically thanked Maureen for her continued service to the library community.
Board Chair Dubitsky adjourned the meeting at 7:45 p.m. The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Board will be held on December 12, 2018.
