Minutes of Meeting

October 11, 2017

The Larchmont Public Library Board of Trustees met on October 11, 2017 at 6:45 p.m., attended by Board Chair Pamela Dubitsky (PD), Trustees Jennifer Conley (JC), Lauren Gottfried (LG), Maureen LeBlanc (ML), Barbara Liptack (BL), John McGarr (JM) and Linnet Tse (LT), Village of Larchmont Liaison Carol Miller and Friends of the Library Liaison Sandy Bernstein (SB), Library Director Laura Eckley (LE), Library Head of Reference Liam Hegarty (LH), Library Staff Assistant Ryan Madonna (RM) and Seasonal Clerk DJ Brucciani (DB). Town of Mamaroneck Liaison Ernie Odierna was absent.
Board Chair Dubitsky called the meeting to order at 6:45 p.m.
The Board reviewed and unanimously approved the Minutes of the Board Meeting of September 13, 2017.

Friends of the Larchmont Public Library Liaison Report

SB announced that the Friends had approved a number of grants to the Library at their September meeting including: $5,000 for a new self-check station in the Burchell Children’s Room, $400 for a Financial Literacy Workshop for Teens, funding for 12 copies of “1968” by Mark Kurlansky and $1,500 for an art program and supplies during the April 2018 One Book One Community Read, $2,800 for wall fixtures in the Children’s Room, and $1,200 for games and materials for STEM programs in CR.  In addition, the Friends raised over $5,000 during the Friends Annual Magazine Drive. As always, Board Chair PD thanked the Friends for their ongoing support of the Library. SB further stated that the Friends have a number of upcoming author programs as well as the Annual Scarecrow Fest this fall.

Committee Reports

Schedule of Bills and Performance Report: The Board reviewed and unanimously approved the Schedule of Bills dated 9/29/17 and 10/4/17. The Board approved the Performance Report dated 10/6/17.

Building and Grounds

PD noted that the new Facility Use Policy and accompanying documents, applicable to the Village Center and Michael P. Coords Activity Room, have been reviewed by legal counsel. LE noted that these documents will now be posted online and made available to the public.

Director’s Report

LE reported that Staff Assistant Ryan Madonna will be leaving the library and moving away from the area. Denis Brucciani Jr has been helping with some of Ryan’s duties and will continue to do so for the immediate future. LE further reported that two Library teams, led by Kim Larsen and Linnea Moosmann, will participate in the countywide Battle of the Books. LE also reported that Kim Larsen is working with the MHS Transition Academy to provide an employment site here at the Library to a student. LE further reported that starting in November Librarian Alex Gaete will lead a new book group on short fiction and that Reference Staff will be available for one-on-one tech help during Tech Tuesdays.

Additional Items

PD announced that the Board will participate in strategic planning for the library over the next few months, with the goal of approving a new plan by January 2018.
