Celebrating Needlepoint in Our Community: fiber arts by Larchmont’s Stitch by Stitch

Celebrating Needlepoint in Our Community: fiber arts by Larchmont’s Stitch by Stitch

October 1-30. Reception: Saturday, October 5th from 3-4:30pm. Stitch by Stitch is a local needlepoint store, celebrating 18 years in 2024 as part of the Larchmont community! Owned by lifelong residents Madalena Bruno and Betty Scanlon, Stitch by Stitch is a haven for creative thought and the meditative art of needlepoint right in the heart of Larchmont’s downtown.

Over 10 years ago, Stitch by Stitch collaborated with the Larchmont Library for an exhibition of patriotic needlework in the Oresman Gallery. We would love to create another showcase for fiber arts in our community by highlighting the work of local stitchers as well as the owners and staff at the store.

This group show will highlight the thousands of hours it takes to create needlepoint masterworks, showcasing a variety of decorative stitches, beadwork, embellishments, fibers, and textures of all kinds. We’ve often considered books and needlework to go hand in hand: both meditative pastimes that can reduce anxiety, create calm, and provoke thought. In showcasing our needlework at the library we hope to further engage in this dialogue by asking library visitors to interpret and appreciate the meditative detail of each needlepoint piece on display.
