Minutes of Meeting
July 12, 2023
The Larchmont Public Library Board of Trustees met on July 12, 2023, attended by Library Trustees Jill Brennick (JB), Celeste Sharpe (CS), Barbara Flickinger (BF), Barbara Liptack (BL), Village of Larchmont Liaison Dana Post (DP), Friends of Library President Melisa Prevost (MP), Library Director Laura Eckley (LE), Head of Reference Liam Hegarty (LH) and Library Staff Assistant Janet Regan (JR). Library Chair Lauren Gottfried (LG), Library Trustees Galit Lopatin Bordereau (GLB), and Linnet Tse (LT) and Town of Mamaroneck Liaison Abby Katz (AK) were absent.
Trustee Barbara Flickinger called the meeting to order at 6:32pm.
Minutes
The Board unanimously approved the minutes for the 6/14/23 Library Board Meeting.
Friends
MP reported on the FOL’s annual fundraising drive for e-materials and plans for fall 2023.
Committee Reports
Schedule of Bills and Performance Report: The Board unanimously approved the schedule of bills dated 7/12/23 and the additional list of bills dated 7/12/23.
The Board unanimously approved Board Chair LG to authorize bill payments for August 2023.
BL made a motion, seconded by CS, to approve the following resolution, which the Board then passed unanimously: Resolved, that the Board of Trustees of the Larchmont Public Library hereby authorizes James Cazzorla, Treasurer of the Village of Larchmont, to transfer the balance of funds from the Library’s Flood Capital Project, totaling $47,292, to the Library’s Capital Building Maintenance Fund and further authorizes the closure of the fund.
Director’s Report
On the recommendation of LE the Board unanimously approved the hire of part time Librarian Evgenia Nikolopoulou, effective 7/8/23 at an hourly rate of $32. LE presented a report from Librarian Caroline Cunningham on her attendance at ALA’s Annual Conference noting the importance of professional development opportunities for staff. LE reported on the addition of the Jewish Museum to the museum pass program, changes to the Library’s periodical holdings, Summer Reading Game statistics and the success of the recent book drive to support Westchester County Corrections and Social Services departments. LE further reported ongoing issues with the Library’s main building elevator. LE presented her FY23/24 goals, which were created in cooperation with LG and LT.
Additional Items
Following discussion the Board voted unanimously to approve an updated Mission Statement for the Library, a revised Library Staff Handbook, a Drug Free Workplace Policy and a Staff Social Media Policy.
LE reviewed committee meeting dates for the Library’s Long Range Strategic Plan.
Meeting adjourned at 7:18pm. The next scheduled Board Meeting will be held on September 13, 2023 at 6:30pm.
