We know that the past few months have been trying and it seems almost impossible to keep up with everything going on. If you have not had time to fill out the 2020 Census yet, don’t fret- the deadline for online, phone and mail-in responses has been extended until September 30th. Please remember that the census only comes around every 10 years and the data collected helps businesses, researchers and communities make crucial planning decisions. In other words, it’s kind of a ‘big deal’ and we want to make sure you’re counted!
If you have a moment, please look over some of the links below to help guide you in the right direction- whether you just want to fill out the Census online, learn more about what the Census actually is or get involved with working for the Census Bureau we’ve got a link to help. Also, if you know someone who doesn’t have computer access, tell them they can be counted via phone. For English, the phone number is (844) 330-2020. There are 13 other languages besides English available- those phone numbers are available here.
- The United States Census Bureau– Plain and simple, this is the official website of the U.S. Census Bureau which is brimming with Census related information.
- The Official Online Census Questionnaire – If you have decided to fill out the Census online, this is it! Click on the blue button which reads ‘Start Questionnaire’ and follow the accompanying prompts. The first thing you will be asked to provide is your 12-digit Census ID which can be found on any of the Census materials you have received in the mail at home. Don’t worry if you can’t locate that mail- there’s a link you can click which reads ‘If you do not have a Census ID.’ You will then be asked to ‘Verify Your Address’ as well as answer a brief set of questions pertaining to your ‘Household’ and ‘People.’ There are 10 questions in total so this should take you no longer than 10 minutes to fill out- it’ll be over before you know it!

- You might want to explore Westchester Counts which is a joint project with Everybody Counts which is a program promoting a complete 2020 Census count for Westchester County.

- Response rates are crucial! Please take the time to consider that the Census determines the allocations of federal and state monies as well as sales tax allocations. Here’s something to consider- each person not counted costs Larchmont $2500 in state and federal monies. If you look at this page you will notice that Larchmont is only at a 63% response rate while Scarsdale has us beat at 79.9%!
