June 14, 2023. Librarian June Hesler has worked here for 50 years. 50! In recognition of this feat, Mayor Sarah Bauer presented June with a proclamation officially declaring today to be June Hesler Day. The occasion was celebrated with cake, flowers and a display from the Library’s scrap books. Click on Read More for a picture of June after only 10 years here. She hasn’t changed a bit.
June’s 50 years is more than half of the Library’s total existence. June had been here for 16 years when the Library got its first catalog computer. The World Wide Web was created the year after that. When June started, the portion of the Library building which contains the Children’s Room and the Village Center was a separate building, the Saint Augustine School Annex. These are just numbers and dates, though. What really distinguishes June’s tenure is that she continues to be relentlessly focused on how we can serve our patrons better even after 50 years. June is not completely retired, but she expects to cut back in the future. Two grandchildren will do that.
As promised, here is June in 1983
