Weather Affects Curbside

Weather Affects Curbside

The dire predictions for the middle of this week have forced the following changes:

  • Wednesday’s Curbside has been moved from the afternoon to two hours in the morning, 10am to noon.
  • Thursday’s Curbside is cancelled.
  • The date to pick up items already here is extended through Saturday.
  • Patrons who have already made appointments will be contacted with their options.

This seems like a propitious time to explain how we will try to handle Curbside when the weather gets bad. There are two situations: the weather is bad, but the Library is open; and the Library is closed.

The weather is bad, but the Library is open

This applies when cold weather makes doing Curbside on the Front Lawn impracticable.

  • Curbside items will be in the vestibule just inside the Front Door.
  • We will email all patrons that have made appointments.
  • Patrons must arrive in their scheduled time slot. We cannot fit everything on the tables at once. Your confirmation email has the time.
  • If you do not feel comfortable going into the vestibule, no problem. Let us know by calling Reference (914-834-2281 x. 3) or email us at and we will reschedule you.

The Library is Closed due to weather

This applies when a storm closes the Library building

  • All curbside appointments are cancelled.
  • Do not return items until the Library reopens. Don’t worry, there will be no fines.
  • Holds are automatically extended for two additional business days.
  • Patrons must make a new appointment for one of those two additional business days or before the date noted on their original holds notice, whichever is later.
  • We will email all patrons that have made appointments.
  • If you cannot pickup your items in time, call or email Reference (914-834-2281 x.3, and we will work to accommodate you.
During the day[s] the Library building is closed, librarians will monitor a remote phone number between the hours of 10am and 4pm. This number is 914-734-5362.

Curbside is a complicated process and we know it can be confusing when we make changes. Please bear in mind that with each new challenge that emerges, we work to improve the process as we go forward. Since the packing and checking out process is time intensive, we are going to err on the side of caution when we close the Library.
