Minutes of Meeting
September 12, 2018
The Larchmont Public Library Board of Trustees met on September 12, 2018 at 6:45 p.m., attended by Board Chair Pamela Dubitsky (PD), Board Trustees Jennifer Conley (JC), Barbara Flickinger (BF), Lauren Gottfried (LG), Barbara Liptack and Linnet Tse (LT), Village of Larchmont Liaison Sarah Bauer (SB), Town of Mamaroneck Liaison Jeffery King (JK), Friends of the Library Liaison Sandy Bernstein (SB), Library Director Laura Eckley (LE), Library Head of Reference Liam Hegarty (LH), and Library Staff Assistant D.J. Brucciani (DB). Board Trustee John McGarr was absent.
Board Chair Dubitsky called the meeting to order at 6:50 p.m.
Board Meeting Minutes
The Board reviewed and unanimously approved the Minutes of the Board Meeting of July 24, 2018.
Friends of the Larchmont Public Library Liaison Report
SB reported that the Friends fall programs start on 9/23 and that the Annual Scarecrow Fest will be held on 10/20. SB further reported that a donation of $189.25 had been received from local second grader Eli Goldfine, who raised the funds at his lemonade stand this summer. SB stated that $4,758 was raised by the Friends Annual Magazine Drive and will be donated to the Library.
Committee Reports
Schedule of Bills and Performance Report: The Board reviewed and unanimously approved the Schedule of Bills dated 8/14/18, 9/7/18 and 9/12/18. The Board reviewed and approved the Performance Report dated 9/7/18.
Building and Grounds
LE reported that mechanical engineers from Werner E. Tietjen, P.E. completed a review of the Library building’s mechanical, engineering and plumbing (MEP) systems and prepared a report for the Library and a list of prioritized recommendations. PD announced that a Facilities Committee would be formed to oversee future improvements identified by the report. Upon the recommendation of LE, the Board unanimously approved the application for a grant to the NYS Library Construction Grant Program for Library’s improvement to the Library building’s HVAC system.
Director’s Report
LE reported that 1) the Library’s Annual Summer Reading Program was highly successful this summer with over 450 children participating, 2) WLS IT Director Rob Caluori will be completing his MLS internship at LPL this fall, 3) the changes to the Children’s Room evening hours have been smoothly implemented and, 4) a publicity program highlighting local authors in honor of Banned Books Week in late September will be featured throughout the Library and on social media.
Additional Items
PD reported that a final edit of the History of the Larchmont Public Library, written by Barbara Italie, has been completed by retired Library Director Diane Courtney and former Library Board Chair Bill Dentzer. PD thanked them for their dedicated and hard work to ensure that the history of the Larchmont Public Library is preserved and well documented.
Board Chair Dubitsky adjourned the meeting at 7:45 p.m. The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Board will be held on October 10, 2018.
