The Fourth Annual Backyard Bioblitz, hosted by the Sheldrake Environmental Center, begins this Sunday on July 16th. For an entire week, teams of local citizen scientists can help develop a snapshot of Westchester County’s biodiversity by uploading photos of their finds to the iNaturalist app. Once you download the app and add your team (which could be a team of one), iNaturalist will help to identify what’s in your photo, log your location and time and thenRead More Read More

Mission Statement

Mission Statement

The Library Board of Trustees recently updated the Library’s Mission Statement. You might want to take a look. This update is part of the Board’s ongoing work to systematically review all of the policies and statements that underpin the Library’s operations. Some of these, for example the Internet Policy, were outdated and needed to be substantially rewritten. Others, not so much. It should be noted that in the midst of this process, New York passed a law mandating the work: a process the Board had already begun.Read More Read More

Catalog Changes

Catalog Changes

On May 1, if all goes well, the look and feel of the catalog will change. We are pretty excited about it. The new catalog will make it easier to find things, to get recommendations and to manage your account. We realize change can be stressful, so we will do what we can to make it easier. We will have a class on the new system on the morning of May 17 and again on the night of the 23rd. The librarians are busy familiarizing themselves with a preview version, so they can better answer your questions.Read More Read More

Checking Out Jigsaw Puzzles at the Library

Checking Out Jigsaw Puzzles at the Library

As you all know, the library has tons of great ‘stuff’ to check out- books, movies, audiobooks, CDs and even museum passes. We are adding something new to our repertoire- jigsaw puzzles! The lending process is easy- choose a puzzle from our display case on the main floor, in the room where we keep our new non-fiction books. Next, take your puzzle to the Information Desk and a librarian will check out it out to you. You are free to return the puzzle whenever you finish it.Read More Read More

Donation helps visually impaired

Donation helps visually impaired

If you, or someone you know, needs help reading fine print, or any other sized print for that matter, a recent donation may help. The Merlin Elite Pro HD/OCR reader is an amazing piece of machinery. It can magnify whatever you want to read up to 73x, but it can also read it to you. Not only that, the device has a library of languages. If the document is in Magyar, for example, the OCR (Optical Character Recognition) will read it to you in Magyar. It won’t translate it though. The machine is good, but not that good.Read More Read More
