Orbital by Samantha Harvey wins the Booker Prize 2024!

Samantha Harvey has won the Booker Prize for her Science Fiction novel, Orbital. Each year the Booker Prize is awarded to the best sustained work of fiction written in English and published in the UK and Ireland. While we have a physical copy circulating in our library, you can also access the book digitally. You might have to wait for a copy on Libby but you won’t have to wait on Hoopla.  Read More Read More

Patrons’ recommendations

Did you know that the library website has a “I think the Library should buy” section?

You can recommend books that we have not purchased but you think would be a good addition to our collections. Just fill out the form. Although we cannot always guarantee we can get our hands on those, our librarians will certainly try!Read More Read More

Bye Bye to Overdrive on May 1st

Bye Bye to Overdrive on May 1st

Hello digital library users! The Overdrive app will officially be discontinued and users will be asked to transition over to the Libby app starting May 1st. Although you will no longer be able to use Overdrive to download ebooks, audiobooks, and magazines, Libby will have all the same content that Overdrive had and will be able to serve all your digital library needs. For Kindle Fire users, you will still be able to use Overdrive as Amazon has not accepted the submission for the Libby app to be available in the Amazon Appstore as of yet.Read More Read More

To mask or not to mask

To mask or not to mask

Following CDC guidelines, we no longer require that patrons wear masks when visiting the Library. We are, however, still recommending masks as many of our patrons (the elderly and immunocompromised for example) remain vulnerable. Masks are not just to prevent you from catching Covid, they also help prevent you from spreading Covid to others. The Library, like all heavily trafficked public places, has the potential to be a vector for spreading the virus. So when you come visit us, please consider wearing a mask to protect your neighbors. Don’t forget to pick up your free test kit, too.Read More Read More

Normal Hours Resume Saturday, Jan. 15

Sufficient staff has come off quarantine, etc. that we can resume our normal hours beginning Saturday, Jan. 15. However, like most libraries in the County, we are only open for browsing the collection and to pick up holds. Please limit your visit to 30 minutes. We are monitoring infection rates in the County. These limitations will be adjusted as the rates change. Please note that the Library is closed Monday, Jan. 17 in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.Read More Read More

A note about in-person programming

A note about in-person programming

As local vaccination rates are high and infection rates are low, we are restoring some of our  in-person programming for adults. When possible, our in-person programs will also be presented remotely, via Zoom, so patrons and/or presenters who do not wish for personal contact can continue to participate. Not every program will be presented in this “hybrid” and some programs will remain entirely on Zoom due to logistical issues, timing, and meeting room availability. Please check listings carefully. Winter is coming (and so are fines)

Winter is coming (and so are fines)

During the current situation we’ve not been assessing fines because, well, we all have enough to deal with. No more! Starting Monday, September 13, we are going to start imposing fines for overdue items again. If you have something that is overdue, it would be wise to return it before then. Read More Read More

Book Groups are Back!

Book Groups are Back!

We have great news for book groups! Since the library is now open for browsing from 9-5, Monday through Saturday, we can start reserving books for book groups again.  Prior to the pandemic, the library supplied books for 30+ local groups and we’re happy to report that new requests are already coming in. Kudos to the Men’s Night Out book club for being the first ones to reserve their books in 2021!  If you want to start a group of your own or get your old one back up and running, please check out our Book Groups FAQ and then contact the Reference Desk by phone at (914) 834-2281 x.3 or by email at larchmontlibrary@wlsmail.org.Read More Read More

Book Drop is Open!

Book Drop is Open!

Today, for the first time in almost 14 months, we unlocked the book drop by the Front Door (see action-packed picture above). Since we aren’t charging fines at this time, it will stay unlocked all day, every day for the foreseeable future. Now you can now return things at 3am if your mood so strikes you. No more return bins.Read More Read More
