Nov. 8, 2023
The Larchmont Public Library Board of Trustees met on November 8, 2023, attended by Library Board Chair Lauren Gottfried, Library Trustees, Barbara Flickinger (BF), Barbara Liptack (BL), Galit Lopatin Bordereau (GLB), Celeste Sharpe (CS), and Linnet Tse (LT), Friends of Larchmont Library Liaison Ellie Berlin (EB), Village of Larchmont Liaison Dana Post (DP), Library Director Laura Eckley (LE), Head of Reference Liam Hegarty (LH) and Library Staff Assistant Janet Regan (JR). Library Trustee Jill Brennick (JB) and Town of Mamaroneck Liaison Abby Katz (AK) were absent.
Library Board Chair LG called the meeting to order at 6:34pm.
Minutes
The Board unanimously approved the minutes for the 10/11/23 Library Board Meeting.
Friends
EB reported on the success of the FOL’s fall season, on upcoming programs, and the FOL upcoming fundraising campaign. LG complimented the FOL on their creative programming.
Committee Reports
Finance
Schedule of Bills and Performance Report: The Board unanimously approved the schedule of bills and the additional lists of bills dated 11/8/23.
The Board unanimously approved Board Chair LG to authorize bill payments for December 2023.
LE reported that several donations were received in memory of Gail Harrington and Peg Corkery. LE further reported that a $10k unrestricted donation was received from the Loomis/Liptack family.
Facilities
LE reported on completed facilities issues including a repair to the elevator phone line, bi annual cleaning of the roof drains and gutters and the upcoming decoration of the Library for the holidays.
Director’s Report
LE reported that October was the highest month ever for ebook circulation. LE further reported that the library card registration program for MMS 6th graders resulted in many cards being cleared up and numerous new card registrations. LE updated the Board on the success of several programs including a lecture on the Electoral College, a radio play presented by the Lions Club and the participation of two LPL youth teams in Westchester County’s Battle of the Books and upcoming programs featuring several new book groups for all ages, resume writing for teens, a library orientation for au pairs and a jigsaw puzzle swap.
LE reported that the staff will undergo AED/CPR training from the LFD and safety training from the LPD in December.
Additional Items
LT reported on a Library Trustee Education Session on DEI. LE reviewed next steps for the Library’s Strategic Plan.
Meeting adjourned at 7:28pm. The next scheduled Board Meeting will be held on January 12, 2023 at 6:30pm.
