February 13, 2019
The Larchmont Public Library Board of Trustees met on February 13, 2019, attended by Board Chair Pamela Dubitsky (PD), Board Trustees Jennifer Conley, Barbara Flickinger, Linnet Tse and John McGarr, Friends of the Library Liaison Sophia Bernstein (SB), Village of Larchmont Liaison Sarah Bauer, Library Director Laura Eckley (LE), Library Head of Reference Liam Hegarty and Library Staff Assistant D.J. Brucciani. Board Trustee Barbara Liptack and Town of Mamaroneck Liaison Jeffery King were absent.
Board Chair Dubitsky called the meeting to order at 6:48 p.m.
Board Meeting Minutes
The Board reviewed and unanimously approved the Minutes of the Board Meeting of January 9, 2019.
Friends of the Larchmont Public Library Liaison Report
SB reported on the tremendous success of the Friends’ 2nd Annual Mini Golf Fundraiser held 2/9-2/10. She noted that over 150 adults attended the cocktail party on Saturday evening, with an additional 200 people playing golf on Sunday, and the event netted an estimated $12,000 for the Friends. SB thanked Library Caretaker Shawn Grey for all his hard work and help throughout the Mini Golf Event. PD thanked the Friends for hosting such a wonderful event.
Committee Reports
Schedule of Bills and Performance Report: The Board reviewed and unanimously approved the Schedule of Bills dated 2/7/19 and 2/13/19. The Board reviewed and approved the Performance Report dated 2/7/19.
Director’s Report
LE reported that (1) repairs to the main floor men’s bathroom are complete and (2) re-wrapping of a pipe on the lower level of the building is underway. LE further reported that the Library received the anticipated bequest of $21,751 from the estate of Beatrice Mangin and that the funds were deposited in the Board Unrestricted Trust Fund. LE reported that two new programs – Art Gallery Talks (featuring local artists talking about their art exhibitions at the Library) and an Abstract Art Series (funded by a WLS mini grant) – are being facilitated by Programming Librarian June Hesler and will begin in March. LE addressed the Westchester Library System’s catalog migration, noting that the process will be complicated but should result in significant improvements, and explained how her staff is preparing for the migration, including staff training which will require closing the Library on March 25th from noon-5pm.
Board Chair Dubitsky adjourned the meeting at 7:25 p.m. The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Board will be held on March 13, 2019.
