The United Way of Westchester and Putnam County is organizing their first-ever Canned Food Drive. Larchmont Public Library is a designated drop-off center along with many other libraries in the two counties. We are accepting donations beginning on Saturday, February 24th. The Food Drive ends on March 2nd at 11am. The Library will not accept any donations before or after the above dates. There will be labeled boxes at both entrances- the Children’s Room and the Main Door- for your donations. Please do not bring any glass containers, expired food or opened cans.
Acceptable items for donation are:
- Canned Vegetables: Corn, green beans, peas, carrots, mixed vegetables, etc.
- Canned Fruits: Peaches, pears, pineapple, mixed fruit, applesauce, etc.
- Canned Proteins: Fish, beef, poultry, pork, spam, beans.
- Canned Sauces, Soups, Stews: Tomato sauce, chicken noodle soup, beef stew, vegetable soup, etc.
- Canned Meals: Ravioli, spaghetti, chili, pasta, and other ready-to-eat meals.
- Non-Perishable Items: Rice, pasta, grains (quinoa, oatmeal, couscous, cereal), dried beans(kidney, pinto, black, lentils), cereal, peanut butter or other nut butters (good sources of protein), olive oil and other healthy oils in plastic bottles, condiments (ketchup, mustard, mayo, relish, salt, pepper, spices), baby food (jars/cereal), powdered formula, shelf stable milks: evaporated milk, condensed milk, powdered milk, and juices/boxes .

Speaking of picking up, our donations are scheduled to be picked up at 11am on the 2nd. We have no way of getting donations to the United Way after that.
