To check out items, you need to bring your library card. There are two ways you can do this. One is using a physical card and the other is using a digital card. There is an app you can download called the Westchester Library System where you can add your card digitally. Most of the time everyone has their phones so this is a great alternative if you forgot your physical card at home. To place a hold on a library item, you can do it online through the catalog or give us a call at the reference desk at 914-834-2281. Most of our books are ordered through Baker & Taylor. When these books arrive, our library staff David R., George C., Laura P., Linnea M. or Veronica B. empty the box and make sure everything that is in the box is on the packing slip. The staff member then enters the invoice number of the packing slip into the computer to let the computer know that the order arrived.Read More Read More

The Solar Eclipse is over so now what do you do with your pair of glasses? Recycle them of course! There are a few organizations that will take them off your hands. Check out Astronomers Without Borders. They will have a list of places you can donate your glasses to. Some of the places are donating the glasses to other countries that have upcoming eclipse events. Warby Parker is collecting used solar eclipse glasses as well. It took moving Heaven and Earth, literally, but the Library has arranged that the Path of Totality for the April 8 eclipse is adjusted to the south slightly. Now Larchmonters will see the Moon cover the Sun entirely instead of just the 90% originally predicted. “We had so many people come to the Library’s front lawn to watch the 2017 eclipse, and it was only 70%. The Library has dropped the first letter from some patron’s last names. These patrons, whose last name formerly began with the letters M or S, are now in the first half of the alphabet (A – K). This change addressed a dangerous unbalance on the Hold Shelf where the number of patrons whose last name begins with a letter in the first half of the alphabet (A through K) were far outnumbered by those in the back half (L through Z). This uneven distribution of names caused an uneven distribution of the weight of the total books on the Holds Shelf.Read More Read More
